Rescue teams brought 20 people of Maghrebi origin to safety from a boat six miles south of Cabrera, in the Balearic Islands, on Monday night. The rescue raised the number of migrants arriving in the Balearics during the first three days of the week to 203. Spain’s government delegation reported the operation.
The Provincial Maritime Service of the Guardia Civil, Salvamento Marítimo, Spain’s maritime rescue service, and the Guardia Civil command’s Citizen Security Unit, known as USECIC, took part.
Eleven other boats carrying 183 migrants had reached the Balearics earlier in the week, mainly the coasts of Mallorca, Formentera and Cabrera.
