Mallorca: Balearic president Marga Prohens wants migrants who arrive irregularly to be returned from the islands, saying returns are now taking place in Ceuta. She makes the call on Tuesday, 20 October, during a general policy debate in the regional parliament in Palma, Mallorca. Prohens also says more than 900 unaccompanied migrant children are in care across the Balearic Islands.

That number is more than twice the normal capacity, which Prohens says Spain’s Ministry of Children and Youth set unilaterally. She accuses the Spanish central government of abandoning the islands and calls for continuing irregular arrivals to be curbed.

Prohens also names population growth, housing and changes to the economic model among the Balearic Islands’ major challenges. Her call is for returns from the islands like those she says are happening in Ceuta; she does not announce a new returns policy.
