138 migrants reach Mallorca and Balearics in seven boats
A total of 138 migrants have reached the Balearic Islands in seven small boats since Monday evening. Five boats arrived on Tuesday, 8 September, near Mallorca, Cabrera and Formentera. Spain’s Government Delegation reported the arrivals.
Five boats on Tuesday
The first group, 24 people from sub-Saharan Africa, was rescued one mile south of Cabrera at 03.24. At 04.40, teams intercepted 21 people from the Maghreb at Cala Galiota in Colònia de Sant Jordi, Mallorca.
Another 23 people from the Maghreb were intercepted at the n’Ensiola lighthouse on Cabrera at 08.30. Five minutes later, 15 people from the Maghreb were intercepted on the Can Blaiet path in El Pilar de la Mola, Formentera.
At the same time, a boat carrying 29 people from sub-Saharan Africa was intercepted two miles south-east of Formentera.
Two boats arrived on Monday evening
On Monday at 19.30, teams intercepted 14 people from the Maghreb at kilometre 15 on the PM-820 road on Formentera. A further 12 people from the Maghreb were intercepted in Colònia de Sant Jordi at about 22.19.
