50 migrants reach Mallorca and Balearics

At least 50 migrants have reached the Balearic Islands in the past few hours, with 12 intercepted in Colònia de Sant Jordi on Mallorca and 24 rescued south of Cabrera.

The latest count from the Spanish Government Delegation also includes 14 people intercepted on Formentera on Monday evening. The groups were described as being of Maghrebi and sub-Saharan origin.

Interceptions on Mallorca and Formentera

At 22.19 on Monday, the Guardia Civil intercepted 12 people of Maghrebi origin in Colònia de Sant Jordi, Mallorca. Officers from the Guardia Civil post in Santanyí and its Citizen Security Unit, known as USECIC, took part.

Earlier, at 19.30, 14 people of Maghrebi origin were intercepted at kilometre 15 of the PM-820 road on Formentera. The Guardia Civil post on Formentera and USECIC were involved in that operation.

Rescue south of Cabrera

At 03.24, 24 migrants of sub-Saharan origin were rescued one mile south of Cabrera. The Guardia Civil's Provincial Maritime Service, Salvamento Marítimo and the Guardia Civil's Tax and Borders Section at Palma port joined the rescue.
