28 migrants intercepted, 128 reach Balearics

Twenty-eight migrants are intercepted on land in Sa Ràpita, in the municipality of Campos, Mallorca, at 19.35 on Wednesday. Authorities say the group is from sub-Saharan Africa. Their arrival takes the day’s total across Mallorca, Formentera and Cabrera to 128.

The figure includes people arriving on foot and in six boats. One person who travelled in one of the boats has been taken to hospital.

The Guardia Civil’s main station in Campos, officers from Santanyí, Campos Local Police and the Guardia Civil’s provincial maritime service took part in the Sa Ràpita operation.

On Formentera, 22 people arrived in two boats. At 09.00, officers intercepted 12 people of Maghrebi origin at kilometre 16 of the PM-820 road in Pilar de la Mola. Another group of ten people of Maghrebi origin was intercepted nearby at the same time.

Five of the six boats reaching the archipelago on Wednesday arrived at Formentera, while one reached Cabrera, according to figures released by the Government Delegation.
