Migration strains Balearics health care and schools

Francesc Fiol, president of the Economic and Social Council of the Balearic Islands, says the large-scale arrival of migrants is putting health care, schools and social services under pressure.
At a presentation in Palma on 24 September of a report on immigration in Spain, Fiol said social services were under strain while health and education resources had reached saturation.
Nearly 30 per cent of the Balearic Islands population are migrants, according to Fiol. Of those born in 2025, nearly 25 per cent are children of people who moved from other countries.
Fiol said the islands are a fragile territory because of their geographical position and size.
