Milei calls Sánchez a thief: Armengol presses PP and Vox
In Madrid, Spain, on Wednesday 21 October, Argentina’s president Javier Milei calls Spanish prime minister Pedro Sánchez a “dictator”, “corrupt” and a “thief”. Francina Armengol, president of Spain’s Congress of Deputies, says the People’s Party (PP) and Vox should defend the office of prime minister against the insults. She describes the two parties as Milei’s ideological allies.
Milei made the remarks at a Nueva Economía Forum event, where he also called for the Socialists to be driven from power. Armengol said she was politically far removed from Milei, but that no president should come to Spain and insult its prime minister.
Armengol also defended the work of the current parliament. She said the Congress had approved 80 legislative initiatives despite difficult voting arithmetic and too much fighting. She regretted the hostility in the chamber and said she had tried to calm debate and help members reach agreements.
