63 mortgage foreclosure cases hit Balearic homes

Mortgage foreclosure proceedings involved 63 homes in the Balearic Islands between April and June, up 1.6% on the same period last year. The National Statistics Institute published the figures on Wednesday, 16 September. Across the islands, 81 mortgage foreclosure proceedings were recorded in all during the quarter.

Most cases involve pre-owned homes

Of the 63 cases involving homes, 61 concerned pre-owned properties and two were new homes. Sixty involved individuals, while three involved legal entities.

Eight of the 81 proceedings across the Balearic Islands concerned rural properties. The overall total for the islands was 2.41% lower than a year earlier.

A case does not always mean eviction

The National Statistics Institute counts certificates for mortgage foreclosure proceedings started and entered in the Property Registers during the quarter. It stresses that not every mortgage foreclosure ends with the owners being evicted.

Across Spain, 3,703 proceedings involved main homes in the second quarter. That was 27.5% higher than in the same quarter of 2025 and the highest figure for more than nine years, since the first quarter of 2017.
