Mallorca’s Munar faces Alcaraz for Tokyo final spot
Mallorca’s Jaume Munar is one win from the final in Tokyo, Japan, after beating France’s Kyrian Jacquet 6-4, 6-2 on Sunday, 4 October. Carlos Alcaraz stands in his way in the ATP 500 semi-finals. Their meeting guarantees a Spanish player a place in the final.
Munar took an hour and 41 minutes to win his quarter-final. He broke Jacquet’s serve once in the first set and twice in the second.
Alcaraz reached the semi-finals when Canada’s Denis Shapovalov retired injured. Alcaraz had won a tight first set in a tie-break and led 2-1 in the second when Shapovalov stopped after an hour and 22 minutes.
Alcaraz leads Munar 3-1 in their previous ATP meetings. Munar pushed him to three sets at Queen’s in the United Kingdom in 2025, their most recent match. Alcaraz has won all eight of his matches in Tokyo; if he wins the tournament, he will be the first player to defend the title there since Pete Sampras in 1993 and 1994.
