Rafa Nadal backs Madrid Formula 1 Grand Prix

Rafa Nadal has hailed the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix at Madrid's Madring circuit as good news for Spain. The former tennis player spoke from the paddock on Sunday, 13 September 2026, while the race was under way. He said Madrid had been growing for years by bringing leading international events from many fields to the city.
The 14-time Roland Garros winner said events of this scale make Spain more international and help it become a point of reference.
Nadal also highlighted the pressure behind the Grand Prix. Organisation, moving large numbers of people and security all have to be managed in a very short time, he said. Madrid and Spain had shown they were capable of meeting that challenge.
