Ibiza neurology delays as staff absences bite
Ibiza, Balearic Islands: ongoing staff absences leave neurology patients facing delays on waiting lists. Balearic Islands health minister Manuela García acknowledged the reduced capacity of the Pityusic Islands Health Area’s neurology service in parliament on Tuesday, 29 September. She said she understood why affected patients felt uneasy about the wait.
García said two neurosurgeons have travelled regularly to the Pityusic Islands since August to help manage the problem. New procedures for treating stroke patients have also been put in place.
Socialist politician Irantzu Fernández asked whether people in Ibiza could still count on good-quality healthcare. She criticised the waiting lists and said there had been no news about a pain unit five months after García announced it.
García replied that the regional government was working to improve access to care, as well as its fairness and quality. She also compared waiting times under the previous government with those in the current legislature.
