Mallorca and the rest of the Balearic Islands recorded 23,072 new car and SUV registrations from January to September 2026, up 17.5% from 19,628 in the same period last year. September brought 1,771 registrations across the islands, an 8.6% rise on September 2025. The figures were released on Thursday by the manufacturers’ association Anfac, dealers’ association Faconauto and sellers’ association Ganvam.

Electric cars gain as petrol falls

The islands registered 3,402 electric cars in the first nine months of the year, up 27.8% on the same period in 2025. Hybrid registrations reached 9,278. Petrol-car registrations fell 10.2% to 7,208, while diesel registrations fell 6.7% to 245.

Companies registered 3,659 cars across the islands from January to September, 4.4% fewer than a year earlier. In September, they registered 342, down 0.3%.

Island growth outpaces Spain

Across Spain, 912,059 new cars and SUVs were registered in the first nine months of 2026, up 6.7% on a year earlier. September’s national total was 93,858, a 10.2% rise. That leaves the Balearic Islands’ nine-month increase well ahead of the countrywide figure.
