Balearic new firms fall 6.8% while Spain grows

Mallorca is part of Spain’s Balearic Islands, where the number of new companies falls 6.8% in the third quarter of 2026 compared with a year earlier. It is the steepest decline of any Spanish region, while new company formations rise across the country. The figures come from the Spanish College of Registrars’ quarterly report.

Spain records 28,117 new companies, up 2.3% on the same quarter in 2025. The Canary Islands and Catalonia also record falls, but smaller ones: 0.6% and 0.4% respectively.

The registrars say geopolitical uncertainty, inflationary pressure and changing growth expectations can affect the pace of company formation. The report does not establish why the Balearic figure fell, and it gives no separate count for Mallorca.
