Ciutadella, Menorca: the plot set aside for new courts remains empty, the People’s Party (PP) says, while court staff work from several buildings with serious shortcomings. On Friday, 16 October 2026, Jaime de los Santos accused Spain’s government of failing to lay “a single stone” for the project during a visit to the island.

De los Santos said the existing court offices were in poor condition. Juana Mari Pons, the PP’s spokesperson and candidate in Ciutadella, said eight years of announcements and promises had produced no new building. She said the city needed premises where justice staff could work properly and citizens could receive adequate attention. A future government led by Alberto Núñez Feijóo would move the project forward, she promised.

De los Santos also criticised an agreement between the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) and Més per Menorca to stand together for the Senate. He accused the parties of caring more about seats than the island’s concerns.
