Mallorca and the other Balearic Islands record 3,528 new businesses from January to September 2026, but September brings fewer openings than a year earlier. The month's 255 new firms are down 7.8% on September 2025. A report by Experian España also records 132 closures in September, up 0.8%, leaving 123 more firms opened than closed.

Across the first nine months of 2026, 1,533 businesses close, leaving a net gain of 1,995. Openings are up almost 3% on the same period in 2025, while closures are down nearly 1%.

That growth in new firms still trails Spain's average of 8.4%. Only Ceuta, Melilla, the Canary Islands and Asturias have lower growth in business openings than the Balearics.
