Mallorca talks target new industries and jobs
Mallorca hosts a push for new industries and job opportunities: unions and employers meet in Palma on Thursday, 15 October 2026, to discuss how to broaden the Balearic Islands’ economy. Representatives from the technology and construction sectors also attend. José Antonio Caldés, the Balearic government’s director general for social dialogue and economic transition, chairs the meeting.
The Balearic Social and Political Pact for Economic, Social and Environmental Sustainability says a broader economy needs new activities, better productivity, innovation and knowledge. In a statement, the Balearic Ministry of Labour, Public Service and Social Dialogue also calls for workers’ and businesses’ skills to adapt, alongside favourable conditions in institutions, local areas and infrastructure.
The aim is to make the economy less vulnerable and create more opportunities for work. Diversification is a central part of the Balearic Transition Agenda. Those at the meeting set out their views on its direction and goals, but the statement names no specific new industries or timetable for the next steps.
