On Mallorca, an 11.3 million euro secondary school is taking shape: IES Maioris is under construction on Galiota street in Maioris Dècima, in the municipality of Llucmajor. On Friday, 23 October 2026, the Balearic government approved the school's creation. It will have 16 units for compulsory secondary education and one specialist education unit.

Llucmajor currently has two secondary schools, IES Llucmajor and IES S'Arenal. Government spokesman Antoni Costa said the new school will help redistribute pupils, particularly in the area served by IES S'Arenal. It will also bring secondary education closer to families in Maioris and the surrounding area.

Llucmajor council provided the 11,105-square-metre plot for the school. Building work began in the third quarter of 2025 and, under the current plan, is expected to finish in the first quarter of 2027.
