Mallorca's Alaró spends nearly €23,000 on street bins
In Alaró, Mallorca, nearly €23,000 has paid for new street bins designed to make dumping rubbish bags harder. The Alaró municipal council said on 7 October 2026 that it had bought and installed the bins. Around €18,000 went on the bins themselves, with the rest covering installation.
The bins hold more than the old ones, but their small, protected openings are meant to make it harder to put bags and other unsuitable waste in. The council says the change should help it manage small items of litter on public streets. Mayor Llorenç Perelló wants cleaner streets, but says keeping Alaró clean is a shared responsibility for the council and local people.
