On Mallorca, 19.7% of nursery workers join a strike on 6 October as more than 100 people gather outside the Balearic Parliament in Palma, Mallorca. The Balearic Department of Education and Universities puts strike participation across the islands at 20.7%, according to figures updated to 14.00. Workers also hold protests on Menorca and Eivissa (Ibiza).

Participation reaches 43.8% on Menorca, 11.1% on Eivissa and 6.4% on Formentera. The protesters want talks on a Balearic-wide employment agreement and changes to a decree setting minimum requirements.

Noelia Jiménez, a spokeswoman for Xarxa 0-3, says the group views the strike and protest positively, but workers feel “deceived”. She says the Balearic government promised a proposal for the decree. Jiménez calls the draft a “disgrace”, saying it says nothing about staff-to-child ratios or children with special educational needs.
