6,000 signatures demand Mallorca nursery talks

La Xarxa 0-3 has handed 6,000 signatures to the Balearic Islands Ministry of Education and Universities in Palma, Mallorca, demanding a negotiating table for nursery staff. The network wants an urgent meeting with Education Minister Antoni Vera. It says the concerns of everyone working in early-years education across the islands must be heard.

Joined by the unions CCOO, UGT and STEI, La Xarxa 0-3 is calling for a dedicated table on the nursery-sector collective agreement, a Balearic-wide agreement and a realistic review of the new minimum standards decree, known as the Decreto de Mínimos.

Equal-treatment talks at a standstill

The groups say negotiations on equal treatment for some educators in integrated escoletes — early-years centres — have stalled. They also accuse the ministry of trying to approve what they call a “phantom” and one-sided agreement, negotiated only with employers’ associations and without the unions.

La Xarxa 0-3 says the ministry’s investment in the 0-3 sector over the past three years has benefited employers’ groups while filling classrooms. Teaching teams, it says, have received neither extra staff nor improvements, leaving workers exhausted after the school year and summer period.

More than 900 workers face uncertainty

The network also highlights the position of more than 900 workers at outsourced municipal nursery schools. They could be affected by the ministry’s stated intention to absorb those centres.

The organisations say the ministry is sending conflicting signals. Vera has publicly backed planning a stabilisation plan with professionals, they say, while the director general for early-years education has avoided taking a clear position and delivered ambiguous messages.
