Mallorca targets Japan and Mexico for off-season trips
Mallorca, Spain, wants to attract more visitors from Japan and Mexico outside the peak season: its island council has met Spanish tourism officials to explore how to reach them. The council said on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, that the talks at the sixth Turespaña convention also covered Italy, the United States and the United Arab Emirates. It wants to learn what appeals to travellers in each country before shaping its promotion.
Guillem Ginard, the island council’s tourism chief, called the meetings positive. He said Mallorca wants to attract people who value its culture, heritage and identity, while making tourism less reliant on the busiest months.
The council is working on promotion tailored to each market, with food and local products alongside culture and heritage. Ginard said the aim is tourism that respects Mallorca’s identity and allows residents and visitors to share the island.
For now, the talks are a step towards that plan, not a new campaign. The Spanish Tourism Offices abroad could help the council find contacts in each country and work with media, tourism businesses and other professionals.
