Mallorca targets off-season visitors at Zaragoza talks
Mallorca, in Spain’s Balearic Islands, wants visitors beyond summer: its tourism chief is heading to Zaragoza, Spain, to make the case for the island in talks with Spanish tourism officials based overseas. Guillem Ginard and Tomeu Ferragut, the island council’s director for demand and hospitality, will attend the sixth Turespaña convention in the coming days, the Council of Mallorca said on Monday.
They plan to meet representatives of Spain’s tourism agency Turespaña based in Italy, the United States, Japan and the United Arab Emirates. The council wants to learn more about each market and explore ways to work together while promoting more responsible tourism on Mallorca.
Ginard says the island needs an approach that reflects its culture, heritage and landscape, rather than one borrowed from other destinations. He wants to focus on the quieter months and create economic opportunities beyond summer. The goal, he says, is not simply to bring in more visitors, but to attract those who bring greater value at the right time. The talks in Zaragoza are the next step in making that case.
