Mallorca official car requests in Excel despite new rules

On Mallorca, requests to use the island council’s official cars still go into Excel spreadsheets rather than the digital register its rules call for, MÉS per Mallorca says. On Friday, 6 November, the party accused the Consell de Mallorca, Mallorca’s island council, of failing to follow controls approved in July. Those controls were introduced after allegations against council vice-president Pedro Bestard of Vox.

Bestard allegedly used official cars for private purposes and ordered their council markings removed. MÉS says internal reports flagged many irregularities, but council president Llorenç Galmés took no action against him. The party says news emerged days ago that prosecutors had filed a criminal complaint against Bestard over suspected misuse of the cars. He remains in office.

MÉS spokeswoman on the council Catalina Inés Perelló calls the controls a cosmetic exercise. She wants Galmés to explain why the digital register is not in place, say how the cars are monitored now and set an immediate timetable for putting the rules fully into effect.
