Mallorca official cars: MÉS seeks money back from Bestard
Three official cars, no authorisation on record: MÉS per Mallorca wants Mallorca’s island council to find out whether second vice-president Pedro Bestard’s exclusive use cost public money, and recover any loss. The party made the demand in Palma, Mallorca, on 2 November after prosecutors filed a criminal complaint against the Vox politician over suspected misuse of public funds.
MÉS says council reports found that Bestard had exclusive use of the cars, but no corresponding authorisation was recorded. The party says council president Llorenç Galmés treated the matter as closed after approving a new protocol. Its council spokesperson, Catalina Inés Perelló, argues that a rule to prevent a repeat does not answer what happened to money already spent.
Perelló wants the council’s legal and financial staff to assess any losses and the council to pursue repayment if money is owed. MÉS has also renewed its call for Bestard’s dismissal. Perelló says the presumption of innocence must be respected, but should not stop the council from considering political accountability or protecting public funds.
