Mallorca official cars case: Vox urges fair treatment
Mallorca’s official cars case: Vox urges prosecutors to respect Pedro Bestard’s presumption of innocence after they file a complaint alleging misuse of vehicles belonging to the Consell de Mallorca, the island council. Speaking on Thursday, 5 November, in s’Arenal de Llucmajor, Mallorca, Vox MEP Jorge Buxadé said the case should continue and Bestard should receive a fair hearing.
Buxadé wants prosecutors to treat Bestard as they have Gabriel Le Senne, president of the Balearic Parliament. Prosecutors have sought Le Senne’s acquittal in a hate-crime case due to go to trial in October 2027. Buxadé called that case politically motivated.
He also turned to possible talks between Vox and the People’s Party over the Balearic Islands’ 2027 budget. Buxadé declined to discuss the details but predicted the People’s Party would give way on Vox’s demand for “national priority”.
He wants that priority applied to public housing, citing Spanish citizenship, legal residence, work and social security contributions as criteria. On the Balearic housing crisis, he called for more building, lower taxes and faster administrative procedures.
