Mallorca hotel sports breaks for nearly 1,000 older people
Mallorca: Nearly 1,000 people aged over 65 or receiving a pension are set to take part in two-day hotel sports breaks this year. On Tuesday, 27 October, island president Llorenç Galmés and other Mallorca Island Council officials visited a group at the Playa Garden & Spa hotel in Playa de Muro, Mallorca. Instructors lead the activities, which range from aqua aerobics and pilates to hiking.
The council says the programme also offers line dancing, strength training, stretching, mindfulness exercises, indoor cycling and health workshops. Hotels taking part are in Cales de Mallorca in Manacor, Cala Millor in Sant Llorenç des Cardassar, Cala Barca in Santanyí and Colònia de Sant Jordi in ses Salines, as well as Playa de Muro and Puerto de Alcúdia.
Galmés said regular strength exercise can improve quality of life in old age. Pedro Bestard, the council’s second vice-president, said the programme was launched two years ago to help older people meet and stay active together. More recent additions include water bikes and shared paddling in a dragon boat, where those activities are available.
