Mallorca ONCE blindfold course shows daily barriers
On Mallorca, visitors can put on a blindfold and try a course of obstacles blind people face every day. The ONCE Social Group has included it in its Balearic programme, which runs from Tuesday to Thursday. The programme also brings an exhibition, talks and theatre to its headquarters in Palma, Mallorca.
A course and an exhibition
An ONCE rehabilitation specialist will guide visitors around the mobility course, which runs from 10.00 to 14.00. The group will provide the blindfolds.
At its headquarters at 8 Calle Manacor, ONCE will display materials used by blind and visually impaired people. The exhibition shows how technology and educational materials are adapted for blind people. It also has a section on braille, a reading and writing system. The exhibition is open from 10.00 to 14.00.
Guide dogs, braille and Medea
A talk at the headquarters on Tuesday at 17.00 will explain how guide dogs are raised and trained. On Wednesday, visitors can learn more about braille and practise simple words.
The programme ends on Thursday with Medea at 19.00. The cast is made up mostly of blind or visually impaired people, and admission to the performance at ONCE’s headquarters is free.
