1,500 Balearics pupils learn safer internet skills

More than 1,500 pupils across the Balearics are learning how to protect their privacy, spot false claims and deal with cyberbullying through free digital-skills sessions. The Cibervoluntarios Foundation is running 96 activities across the islands in 2025 and 2026. It announced the programme on Tuesday, as the new school year gets under way.

Its study of 5,685 participants found that targeted lessons can lift young people’s digital-skills scores by up to 1.5 points. Scores for privacy and digital footprint — the trail left by online activity — rose from 3.22 to 5.53. The foundation said starting younger has the greatest effect, while learning slows during adolescence.

Courses for children, families and teachers

The extracurricular Campamento Digital programme has reached 868 children and teenagers aged nine to 17 in the Balearics during 2025. Another course, De mayor quiero ser, introduces nine- to 14-year-olds to STEAM careers: science, technology, engineering, art and maths used together to tackle complex problems creatively.

Para, piensa y conéctate works with teenagers, families and teachers on safer internet use. It aims to support digital wellbeing and prevent cyberbullying and online gender-based violence. InnovadorasTIC, ConTICgo and (des)Conecta are also active in the Balearics.

Volunteers support safer online choices

More than 4,500 Cibervoluntarios volunteers help children and teenagers stay safe online, protect their privacy, identify false information and cyberbullying, and create digital content responsibly.

The foundation’s founder and president said: “Being connected is not the same as knowing how to decide.” She said training can turn automatic technology use into a conscious, critical and creative one.

Schools, town halls and other organisations in the Balearics can apply for sessions for the new school year through the Cibervoluntarios app or website. People can also join its technology-volunteer network there.
