Mallorca orange rain alert as heavy storms build

Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands, is under an orange warning for rain on Wednesday as strong or very strong showers and thunderstorms are forecast for the afternoon. The State Meteorological Agency, Aemet, expects significant rainfall totals. Mallorca also has a storm warning.

Cold air higher up and a weather front closer to the ground are set to make conditions unstable. Aemet expects clouds to build through the afternoon, bringing the risk of hail and very strong wind gusts alongside the downpours.

The orange rain warning also covers Teruel, Barcelona, Girona and Valencia. Valencia has an orange storm warning as well.

Daytime temperatures are expected to fall across almost all of Spain. Overnight lows in the Balearic Islands are forecast to stay much the same or edge up slightly.
