Mallorca faces an orange warning for rain and thunderstorms on Sunday, 18 October. The warning applies at different points during the day across the Balearic Islands. In the Pityusic Islands, rainfall could exceed 300 litres per square metre in 24 hours, according to Spain’s State Meteorological Agency, Aemet.

That extreme rainfall forecast is for the Pityusic Islands, not Mallorca. The Balearics also have a yellow warning for coastal winds.

Aemet expects unsettled weather across the Balearics and mainland Spain. It points to cold air high overhead and two weather systems known as danas: Adam over France and another southwest of mainland Spain. Temperatures are expected to fall slightly on the islands.

The warnings stretch beyond the Balearics. Seven Spanish autonomous communities, along with Ceuta and Melilla, face rain and thunderstorm warnings on Sunday. The Valencian Community goes on red alert from 10.00.
