Ibiza organic farmland doubles to 1,590 hectares

Ibiza has 1,590 hectares of farmland under organic cultivation in 2025, more than twice the area recorded in 2020. The figure amounts to 20.4% of the island's agricultural land, the Ibiza & Formentera Preservation Sustainability Observatory says. That leaves Ibiza 4.6 percentage points short of the European target of 25% by 2030.

The area grew by 138 hectares in a year, climbing from 1,452 hectares in 2024 — a rise of 9.5%. The Observatory warned that the increase must be seen against the still limited scale of farming on Ibiza, and said the sector needs measures to keep it going and make it stronger.

Sant Antoni posts the fastest increase

Organic land increased in four of Ibiza's five municipalities between 2024 and 2025. Sant Antoni made the biggest gain, adding 52 hectares to reach 393 hectares, a 15.25% increase.

Sant Josep added 51 hectares, rising from 443 to 494 hectares and retaining the island's largest area of organic farmland. Sant Joan grew from 284 to 310 hectares, while Santa Eulària rose by five hectares to 385. Eivissa remained unchanged at four hectares.

Ten new processors join the sector

The number of organic operators rose from 161 to 171. All ten new entrants were processors of organic products; the number of producers did not change.

Woodland and wild collection recorded the sharpest expansion, up 15.6%, mainly linked to livestock activity in wooded areas. Organic vineyards, cereals and pulses, citrus fruit and nuts also covered more land than in 2024.

The Observatory called for support and programmes tailored to Ibiza's farming sector, alongside help to market local produce, sustain farms and encourage generational renewal.
