Balearics overseas voter roll jumps 24%, Vox warns

The Balearic Islands’ overseas voter register has risen by 24% since July 2023, Vox says. The party’s parliamentary spokeswoman, Manuela Cañadas, raised the figure in Palma on Monday before the Balearic Parliament session. She said the register had reached 40,810 people on 1 May 2026, up from 32,842.

Cañadas said the increase mattered because people on the register can vote in both Spanish general elections and elections to the Balearic Parliament. She pointed to previous island elections in which seats were settled by very small margins.

The register is known as CERA, the electoral roll for people recorded as living abroad. Cañadas linked her concerns to Spain’s so-called “grandchildren’s law”, which she said has been provisionally suspended by the Supreme Court.

She accused Spain’s government and the PSOE of using Spanish nationality as an electoral tool, and called for journalists to investigate the issue.
