Palma, 15 years on: Paco Donate tribute takes shape

Palma, Mallorca, has marked 15 years since the death of former socialist city councillor Paco Donate, with his party announcing a new space to carry on his legacy. The Palma Eixample Socialist group paid tribute to Donate at its Fiesta de la Rosa on Friday night. His family recalled both the man and his vision for the city.

The group said it will create the Espacio Paco Donate, a place intended for reflection and to keep his legacy alive. During the event, Susanna Moll and Toni Donaire received silver roses in recognition of their work.

Local group secretary-general Mari Ángeles Fernández described the gathering as a chance for socialists to meet again and reaffirm their shared aim of building a better society.

Francina Armengol, secretary-general of the PSIB Socialists, attended alongside Rosario Sánchez, Amanda Fernández and Iago Negueruela, the party's candidates for the Balearic Government, the Council of Mallorca and Palma City Hall.

Armengol urged the party to keep fighting the political right and put forward bold proposals. Sánchez accused the Prohens administration of neglecting education and public services, while Fernández promised to restore rights she said had been removed by the PP and Vox.

Negueruela called for policies that would reshape Palma, saying the city should once again be a place where people can live.
