Palma takes AI safeguards to Málaga smart-city summit
Palma took its approach to artificial intelligence (AI) in public administration to Málaga on Tuesday, 22 September 2026. David Díez, the city’s general coordinator for Innovation and Digital District, and innovation project manager Tomeu Crespí represented Palma at the Smart City Congress.
The pair spoke on a panel examining how public bodies can bring AI into their work through useful and responsible action. The discussion covered the rules for running such systems, staff training, data protection, transparency and human oversight.
Palma City Council said the meeting gave the city a chance to exchange experience with other municipalities and study reference projects. It plans to feed that knowledge into its own innovation and digital transformation work.
The congress was organised by the Spanish Network of Intelligent Cities, created in 2013 to encourage collaboration and knowledge-sharing between municipalities. The network now brings together 160 town halls and seven provincial councils, according to Palma City Council.
