Palma Airport theft: man arrested over duty-free goods

Spain’s Guardia Civil arrested a 23-year-old on suspicion of theft at Palma Airport, Mallorca, on 17 August 2026, after tobacco and perfumes valued at €2,574 were allegedly taken from a duty-free shop.

A security guard spotted the suspect as he tried to leave the shop with tobacco concealed in his clothing. Officers later recovered 90 packets of rolling tobacco and six perfumes from his belongings.

Security-camera footage indicated that he had entered and left the shop several times using the same method. Investigators said he removed pouches of rolling tobacco from their boxes, concealed them in his clothing and tried to avoid detection when leaving.

The 23-year-old was handed over to the judicial authorities as the alleged perpetrator of a theft offence.
