Mallorca airport works spark row over more passengers

More passengers at Palma airport on Mallorca: a campaign group says building work there will expand its capacity. On 1 October 2026, the Platform Against the Expansion of Palma Airport repeats its warning, pointing to a video of about one minute filmed around the site. The group says the images show that the work will increase the number of passengers the airport can handle each year.

Airport operator Aena says the work is not an expansion and will not bring more passengers, according to the group. The campaigners also accuse the Balearic government of a contradiction: it opposes expansion, they say, while consolidating growth in air travel with a daily route to New York.
