Mallorca airport gets €621.6m in €1.03bn plan

Palma Airport on Mallorca is set to receive €621.6 million between 2027 and 2031, with baggage screening equipment, terminal work and renewed boarding bridges in the plan. Spain’s Council of Ministers approved the airport regulation document, known as DORA, on Tuesday, 15 September. It sets aside €1.03 billion for the four Balearic airports.

Palma work targets safety and terminal

The Palma programme also includes work on the airfield and aircraft parking areas, alongside terminal improvements. A new rescue and fire-fighting building and renewed electrical systems are planned to strengthen operational safety.

Eivissa Airport is allocated about €229.7 million. Its security screening area is due to expand for new equipment, while border checks will be adapted and a single access point created for a non-Schengen departure area. Work is also planned on the airfield and aircraft parking areas.

Menorca Airport will receive €170.7 million. Its plans include similar security and border-control changes, access to a non-Schengen departure area, and new gates served by boarding bridges.

Son Bonet included in Balearic package

Son Bonet Airport on Mallorca is earmarked €7.9 million. The scheme covers site works, access routes and connections, as well as paving, a larger aircraft parking area and drainage improvements. Work on the perimeter fence and the solar plant project is also included.

Across Spain, DORA provides €13 billion for airports over the same five-year period. The government says the spending will be paid from revenue generated by the Spanish airport system run by public company Aena, not from the state budget. Transport Minister Óscar Puente said the average airport charge will rise by only three cents per passenger each year.
