Mallorca airport protest targets new flight routes
Opponents of expansion at Palma Airport on Mallorca will gather at 18.00 on Sunday outside the Delegation of the Government in the Balearic Islands in Palma. The Platform Against Palma Airport Expansion wants public funding for tourism promotion and the opening of new air routes to stop. Social, environmental and neighbourhood groups are joining the protest.
The platform says the march is “more necessary than ever”. It wants people to reject any plans by airport operator Aena and the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility to raise capacity at Son Sant Joan.
It also backs an airport co-management law that would let the Balearic Government regulate capacity and begin a reduction. Groups involved in the march are due to give further details at a press conference on Saturday.
