Mallorca: Two Palma lanes reopen after road hole repair

Responsible for this content: Frank Menze

In Palma, Mallorca, two lanes of the Avenidas reopen on Wednesday, 7 October, after a hole in the road forces their closure towards Paseo Marítimo. The hole is near the military barracks on Avenida Gabriel Alomar. Traffic is back to normal by around 17.00, Palma City Council says, after Emaya workers finish resurfacing the damaged stretch.

A faulty drinking-water pipe beneath the pavement near number 16 caused the hole. The fault was detected shortly after 22.00 on Tuesday, and Emaya workers have been repairing it since then. They fix the pipe at around 10.30 on Wednesday and put in two load-bearing plates to strengthen the structure and help prevent similar problems.

The water supply to nearby homes was barely affected and is now fully back to normal, according to the council.
