Mallorca: MÉS warns PP could cut Palma bike lanes

In Palma, Mallorca, cyclists have to get off their bikes to cross parts of Plaza de España, while cars can drive through, MÉS per Palma says on Tuesday, 20 October. The party warns that the People’s Party (PP) could remove bike lanes and change routes near the intermodal station and Plaza Verge del Miracle.

Its immediate concern is a new bike lane on 31 de Diciembre, which is set to replace the lane on Calle Blanquerna temporarily. MÉS wants the new route to be permanent, safe and connected to the rest of Palma’s cycle network. Its mayoral candidate, David Pujol, fears the temporary arrangement could end with a bike lane being removed.

The party also says vehicles can enter the pedestrian area outside the police office near the intermodal station, despite unfavourable technical reports from the mobility department.

MÉS is asking what work is planned at Ses Estacions park and Plaza Verge del Miracle, and wants assurances that cycle routes will stay connected. Pujol has called on mayor Jaime Martínez to promise that no bike lane will be removed without an alternative.
