Palma's 2027 budget hit over missing housing funds

Palma, Mallorca: the city approves a 670-million-euro budget for 2027, but the Socialists say it leaves housing without funding. The city council’s executive board approved the plan on 4 November 2026; it is 7% bigger than the previous budget. Local Socialist Party (PSOE) spokesman Francesc Dalmau says mayor Jaime Martínez does not understand what the city’s neighbourhoods need.

The PSOE says money for housing has disappeared from the budget despite Palma’s housing crisis. Dalmau also challenges the six million euros set aside for neighbourhoods, saying it would fix only three streets. He accuses Martínez of continuing to talk about plans that have not materialised in three and a half years.

Dalmau says five million euros for climate control in schools would not be enough to adapt even five schools. He also accuses Martínez of previously voting against such spending. In Dalmau’s view, the PP-led council has failed to improve life in Palma over the past three and a half years, leaving people worse off.
