Palma crash: car topples nine parked motorbikes
Nine parked motorbikes were knocked over in Palma, Mallorca, on Sunday after a 56-year-old driver lost control of her car. The crash happened at about 16.00 at the junction of Avenida Sant Ferran and Pasqual Ribot Street. Palma Local Police are investigating the incident.
A police patrol taking a detainee past the scene saw that a collision had occurred. The driver was unhurt, and officers from the Vehicle Accident Unit attended to prepare the report.
Car hit nine motorbikes
Investigators say the woman was driving in the right-hand lane of Avenida Sant Ferran when her car suddenly veered into the parking area near number 24. It struck one parked motorbike.
A witness said she then reversed and hit eight more. The motorbikes fell in a domino effect despite being properly parked in the designated area.
Driver cites sun and possible low blood sugar
The driver told officers that sunlight had dazzled her and caused her to lose control. She also said she had come from work without eating all day and may have had low blood sugar shortly before the impact because she has diabetes.
She tested negative for alcohol. The Vehicle Accident Unit has opened preventive crash proceedings and told those involved what steps follow.
