Palma thefts: woman held over cards and gold
A woman has been arrested in Palma after two older men reported losing bank cards, cash access and a gold chain worth nearly €7,000. National Police located and detained the suspect last Wednesday. She is suspected of two thefts and one fraud offence.
The investigation began after complaints filed in March and July, the Balearic Islands Police Headquarters said. Interviews with the men led officers to believe the same woman was involved in both cases.
In one report, a man said he met the woman in a bar and bought her several drinks. When he paid, she allegedly took his wallet containing bank cards while he was distracted.
After they went their separate ways, he received alerts showing cash withdrawals and purchases made with one of the cards. More than €1,900 was allegedly spent.
The other complaint came from an octogenarian who said a young woman approached him on a bus. She touched his back and neck and offered him a massage and company, he told police. After they got off the bus, she ran away, according to his account. He then found that his gold chain, valued at nearly €7,000, had gone.
