Mallorca cathedral steps partly cordoned off over cracks
Part of the steps at the cathedral in Palma, Mallorca, remains cordoned off after cracks appeared in February and two side supports shifted beside the viewpoints. Palma City Council says a recent report from its Urban Planning department finds no risk of the stairway collapsing.
Deputy city government spokesperson Llorenç Bauzá said on Wednesday, 21 October, that the council is continuing to monitor and check the steps. In recent days, it has marked out the affected areas more clearly. The barriers are there to stop people falling, tripping or getting hurt, he said — not to block the passage completely.
