Palma: police hold father after boy, 5, left alone
A five-year-old boy was found crying alone in a street in Son Gotleu, Palma, on Saturday after leaving home to look for his parents. National Police later arrested his father on suspicion of child abandonment.
A woman alerted police at midday after seeing the child alone in the street. He told officers he had been frightened because he was by himself at home, so he went outside to find his parents.
Police tried to trace the boy’s parents. When the father arrived, he said the child’s mother was at work and that he had gone shopping without his son because the boy did not want to go with him.
Officers contacted the mother at her workplace and placed the boy in her care. The father was then arrested as the suspected offender.
