Palma drink-driver headbutts police

Palma, Mallorca: a crashed car blocks the Sóller road at 05.00 on Monday. Its 30-year-old driver later headbutts one police officer and shoves another. A breath test puts him at four times the legal alcohol limit.

A road user calls police about the car, which is across the road and obstructing traffic. Palma Local Police say officers find it on a gravel strip in the central reservation, facing against the direction of travel. The driver shows clear signs of drinking and refuses to hand over his documents.

Officers try to move him to the pavement, away from traffic. Instead, he walks in zigzags between vehicles. Another police team blocks his path. He headbutts one officer in the chest and forcefully pushes a second.

Police restrain him. His breath test registers 1.00 milligrams per litre of breath — four times the legal limit and above the threshold for a criminal offence. Officers take him to the police station and prepare a case for court. He is released but must appear when summoned.
