Palma drug trial: six face 39 years

Six people face a combined 39 years in prison when their preliminary hearing opens in Palma on Thursday, 17 September. Prosecutors accuse them of dealing cocaine, heroin and cannabis, and of belonging to a criminal organisation. The Second Section of the Balearic Islands Provincial Court will hear the case.

The prosecution says the group used a ground-floor premises in a Palma building to store and sell drugs. It is seeking six years and six months in prison for each defendant.

When National Police entered the premises, the defendants allegedly tried to flush the drugs, mainly cocaine, heroin and cannabis, down a toilet. Officers seized drugs valued at 96,648 euros, along with 13,495 euros, 46 dollars and 81,400 Nigerian nairas in cash.
