Palma fall: elderly woman lies helpless for a day

An elderly woman spends a day stranded on her bedroom floor after falling at her home in Rafal Nou, Palma. On 18 September, a neighbour hears faint calls for help and alerts Palma Local Police at 07.00. Officers reach the woman at 08.20, finding her conscious but unable to move because of severe hip pain.

She says she fell at about 08.30 the previous day and could not reach her mobile phone. Palma Local Police say the woman had remained on the floor ever since.

Faint cries lead police through six-storey block

The neighbour could hear the calls but could not tell which flat they came from. The six-storey building has a shared inner courtyard linked to three entrances, making it difficult for officers to trace the sound.

Police spoke to neighbours and focused on a first-floor flat after hearing unusual noises inside. A woman next door said she had not seen the older resident for several days and allowed officers onto her balcony.

An officer then opened a Mallorcan shutter with a plastic sheet, without causing damage, while colleagues worked at the main entrance.

Ambulance takes woman to hospital

Officers gave the woman initial care and support until the SAMU 061 emergency medical team arrived. A medicalised ambulance stabilised her before taking her to Son Llàtzer Hospital.

Her immediate family later arrived at the flat and took charge of the home.
