Mallorca eviction: neighbours rally for Palma family
On Mallorca, neighbours plan to gather in Palma at 9.30am on 2 October to try to stop a family’s eviction half an hour later. The eviction is scheduled for 10am at 44 Bisbe Cabanelles. The assembly of the Plaza de España protest camp called the action, with support from Coordinadora de Vivienda Baleares and Stop Desahucios Mallorca.
A young man who lives in the flat needs support and has a recognised disability rating of 41%, the groups say. They say the threat of eviction has caused him a serious health crisis. His mother has recently returned to work after a long absence following an accident at work and surgery.
At the same time, Palma’s judicial dean’s office and Court of Instance are processing an urgent request to suspend the eviction under the new housing decree, according to the groups. Whether it will go ahead remains unclear.
