Palma flat squat: police arrest six after lock-out

The owners of a flat in Palma, Mallorca, returned after a few days away to find they could not get in. The lock would not work, and voices and other sounds came from inside. National Police arrested six men on Friday over a suspected unlawful entry into the home.

The owners, who live at the property from time to time, called police after trying to enter. Several patrols went to the address and found people inside who were not the usual occupants.

One of the men told officers that he lived there with others and had a supposed rental contract. The owners disputed that account and showed documents identifying them as the property’s owners.

Officers later entered the flat and identified everyone inside. After the owners said they intended to make a complaint, police arrested the six men on suspicion of unlawfully entering a home.

Police also found personal belongings in the flat, including electric scooters, rucksacks and clothing. The items were seized so officers can establish where they came from.
